The Meaning and Importance of the Designation

Who is a CPM® Candidate?
A Candidate is a person who is working toward, but who has not yet achieved, the designation of Certified Property Manager®. To become a Candidate, one must be actively employed in property management. A formal application must be filed with, and approved by, the Institute of Real Estate Management. Endorsement of the applicant by a local chapter is also required. Once accepted, one must serve as a Candidate for a minimum of one year and generally a maximum of five years. To achieve the designation, there are particular requirements of education and experience which must be met. The progress of each Candidate is monitored by the local chapter and by the IREM office in Chicago.
